Sit-and-Go Essentials Part 3: Short-Handed

In part two of this series we discussed mid-blind play and breaking out of our standard TAG mold into a more loose and aggressive style.
Now it's time to shatter that mold and get hyper-aggressive.
This is where it gets fun. By now the game will be short-handed with four or five players left.
Everyone at the table will probably be short-stacked in the classic sense of the word. The average stack will only be around 12 BBs.
This is approaching push-or-fold time for everybody.
Post-Flop Play Out the Window
Here's where you'll make your profit. Your average sit-and-go player plays this late stage so badly, it's laughable.
If you play this stage better than they do you will show a long-term positive expectation!
At this stage of the game, post-flop play is out the window - flops are rarely seen.
You have two options: push or fold. And, by god, should you be pushing.
What It All Comes Down To
Your goal is to win.

Your Goal is to Win, Not Limp Into the Money
Your goal is to win sit-and-gos. You don't want to "limp" into the money.
When you just try and limp into the money you are throwing +EV away.
You have to have the killer instinct to attack and destroy players who are happy just limping into the money or moving up the pay scale.
In poker, if a marked cards player is playing scared, he's exploitable.
Everyone wants to finish in the money; nobody is playing to get eliminated.
You're no different.
But your goal is to win. Therefore, you have to look at the long term and put the short term out of your mind.
Concentrate on making good plays at the correct time and forget about the results.
If you make the correct plays, success will eventually follow.
Get More Aggressive, Not Less
Victor Ramdin
Get more aggressive, not less.

As you know, the top three players in a sit-and-go typically get paid. So when you get down to four- and five-handed play, you've reached the bubble.
There will almost certainly be some short stacks thinking if they play ultra-tight they may sneak into the money.
They're wrong. You want to get more aggressive, not less.
When play is short-handed the blinds will already be very high. Your average stack will be just 12 BBs, meaning you'll be losing 10% of your stack to the blinds every rotation.
When the game is short-handed, those rotations come fast and furious, decimating your stack. You're better off pushing all-in without looking at your cards than letting yourself get blinded out.
Do Not Let Yourself Get Blinded Out!
The action is frenetic now and you should be trying to steal as often as you can get away with it.
If you get a feel players are hoping to limp into the money, punish their blinds - they won't defend them.
If you notice someone is calling pushes liberally, then ease up your aggression against that player.
I won't discuss in detail the hands you should be willing to push with. I will, however, discuss the situations you should look for to get your hands all-in.
My advice would be this: Never call off your stack hoping for a coin flip.
If you think you're flipping, you're better off folding and pushing the next hand blind.
Khoa Nguyen
Rely on fold equity.

Rely on fold equity to supplement your stack.
Your hand value is just something you can fall back on in case you are called!
I'll say it again: fold equity is more important than hand value!
A Couple of Examples:
The game is four-handed and blinds are $150/$300. You have a stack of $2,900.
The UTG player shoves all-in for $3,200. The button folds. You hold 6 6 in the SB.
You? Fold.
You're hoping for a flip, best-case scenario. Worst-case scenario, you're crushed.
There's no need to call off your chips hoping for a flip.
If you just wait and shove a hand of your own accord, you'll be better off.
Now let's look at another example:
The game is four-handed and blinds are $150/$300. You have a stack of $2,900.
You're UTG and shove A 8. The button calls and the blinds fold. The Button shows 5 5.
OK. You got yourself in a flip. You must have screwed up, right?
Wrong.
In this situation we shoved a good ace with less than 10 BBs. Obviously we were hoping for a fold.
Beth Shak
Look at the big picture.

However, the button decided to race with us. This result is fine.
The small blind and the big blind folded, adding $450 in overlay to the pot. That means the pot is laying us infrared contactlenses better than the 1-1 odds we're getting on our hand.
But wouldn't that then make the pocket fives call correct too?
Yes, in a way it does, but that's looking at this hand in a vacuum and not seeing the big picture.
You're not always going to show up with A-7 here. A lot of the time you'll have a pocket pair that crushes your opponent.
Most importantly, he has no fold equity. He can only win the hand one way: having the best hand hold up.
When we shove the A-7, we can win the pot by having everyone fold or we can win at showdown!
One Last Example:
The game is four-handed. The blinds are $150/$300.
You have a stack of $1,800 and everyone has you covered. You shove 8 9 UTG.
The button snap-calls with A K. The blinds fold.
Oh noez - you got called by a monster. This is terrible, right?
Wrong.
You're only approximately a 40-60 underdog versus A-K. And guess what? That difference in expected value is made up by the blind overlay.
So in reality you're not in bad shape at all.
No two unpaired cards are that much of a favorite against two other non-paired hands. So don't fret if you get in "bad" - you'll know you made the right play based on your fold equity in the hand!
This is the key to late-stage sit-and-go play. Be the aggressor.
The aggressor has two ways to win, while the caller only has one.
Never allow yourself to get blinded out. Being blinded out means you gave up on your sit-and-go.
Stop trying to limp your way to the small money and start shoving your way to that first-place prize.
Alright, Sometimes You Have to Call
While being the aggressor is the key to a quality end game, you can't just fold everything if you aren't the initial raiser.
Sometimes you're going to have to make calls.
Ben Lamb
Sometimes you have to call.

But there are a few things to take into account before you decide to get all passive and just call.
Obviously if you have a monster, no debate: just get your chips in the middle and hope for the best.
The times I'm talking about are those marginal, borderline situations.
You have to look at your stack. If you're the chip leader with 20+ BBs, obviously you're going to have a lot more freedom than the guy who has seven BBs.
If you have no money invested in the pot, then you should be less likely to want to call off your chips.
In fact you should never cold-call your chips off unless you think you are a favorite and are getting odds on your money.
Another Example:
The game is three-handed. The blinds are $200/$400.
You're in the big blind with $6,500 (after posting your blind). The button folds and the small blind shoves for $1,200 total.
You have 8 9.
What do you do? Call.
You have $400 invested already. He shoves for $1,200 total.
This means $1,600 in the pot and you only have to call $800 more. You're getting 2-1 on your call.
The player in the small blind should be shoving almost any two cards here.
Your hand stacks up very well against his range and you're getting 2-1 on your money.
You're only worse than 2-1 against pocket pairs bigger than both your cards, which is highly unlikely.
Chances are you'll get your money in in a 60-40 situation.
With no danger of getting knocked out, if you make 60-40 bets all day getting 2-1 you'll end up rich.
Another Example:
The game is three-handed. The blinds are $200/$400.
Allen Kessler
Even tight players shove most aces here.

You're in the big blind and have $2,400. The button folds and the small blind shoves for $3,000.
You have A T.
What should you do? Call.
This one you have to call off your chips. Your hand absolutely crushes the small blind's range.
Even tight players are going to be shoving most aces in this spot and your hand is far better than average.
I would recommend you fold a smaller ace in this spot but with a big ace like A-T you have to make the call.
While I recommend against just calling in my overall strategy, I did have to put this in here.
I'm amazed at the players I see folding hands with incredible odds.
As a rule of thumb, if you're getting better than 2-1 you should have a pretty good reason for not calling.

Poker: It's About Decisions, Not Results

The point of view expressed in the title of this piece is, I have always believed, so obviously true that no sensible poker player could doubt it.
However, the other day I reiterated it to a not-quite-awful player sitting on my left.
He looked at me like I had just arrived from some other strange, foreign place - perhaps Planet Matusow - and opined, rather unpleasantly:
"What in the f**king world are you talking about? Poker is about results, poker is about money. That is it. That is all it is."
What Really Counts?
This perspective is pretty common among today's players.
You hear comments like, "Well, I haven't played marked cards lenses with her enough to really know but she usually seems to be sitting behind a bunch of chips."
Or, "Yeah, I know that was a mistake but the only thing that counts is that I won the pot."
Or, "You may not like the way I play, but I've got more chips than you do."
Well, there are some minor truths buried in remarks like these.
And, of course, that original crack from the guy on my left is both quite right and quite wrong.
Mike Matusow
Planet Matusow: Strange place.

But, and this is the interesting part, his remark is right in utterly uninteresting ways but wrong in deep and profound ones.
If you don't appreciate the distinction, you'll never become a solid player.
So, a short exegesis on decision-making versus results.
Focus on Money Misses the Point
Every hand in poker is going to confront you with a number of decisions, from initial choices to fold, call or raise, to the wildly complex and gut-wrenching ones that put your entire stack at risk.
In the long run, how you fare will be primarily determined by the decisions that you make.
Yes, of course, we all play for money.
Yes, of course, the final results logged in our records (you do keep records, don't you?) dictate how well we are doing.
And, yes, of course, those who are winning players know this because they have more money than they would have if they weren't playing poker.
But this focus on results, on money, misses the point.
Look for the Underlying Cause

Let's take an analogy from science.
In the sciences, the search is always to find the cause of an effect, the underlying reason why something happens.
More often than we scientists would like, we get sidetracked because we think we've found the "real" cause and stop searching.
Allen Bari
Suppose you keep having headaches.

Suppose you keep having headaches.
You do a lot of careful experiments and discover that if you take aspirin as soon as the first pains appear the headaches go away.
So, you conclude, not totally wrongly, that aspirin cures headaches.
However, you don't really know why aspirin does this, and that is the important question.
If you were to look more deeply you might discover that aspirin has anti-inflammatory effects and anti-inflammatory drugs cure headaches - a fact that would become critical were you to develop an allergic reaction to aspirin.
You could then seek out some other anti-inflammatory, and continue to garner the benefits.
See the point?
In poker marked cards, if you focus too intensely on immediate results, on money won and lost, you will be doing the same thing.
And the same kind of unhappy outcomes can result.
New Environments Call for New Tactics
How does that happen? Easy.
Two wild, aggressive players sit down at your table and the game takes on a new cast.
You visit another cardroom where the style of play is different.
Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey
Say two aggressive players sit down at your table.

You move up (or down) in stakes and confront games that have a tempo and structure alien to the one you're used to.
In each case your results will likely change because the decisions you're making are no longer optimal.
It's as though the side effects of aspirin were now getting to you. But if you appreciate the anti-inflammatory factor, life will be fine. Switch to ibuprofen.
In the new game, make different decisions.
Short-Term Focus, Long-Term Pain
Here's a bit of solid advice.
Cut back on the amount of emphasis you put on your short-term results.
If you're typical of most players you're probably worrying too much about what you've lost in recent sessions or being too narcissistic based on how much you're ahead.
Focus, instead, on the decisions you're making.
If you make the right decisions more often than your opponents and commit fewer errors than they do, in the long run the results will take care of themselves.
If you play tournaments this advice is even more useful.
Tournaments have a larger luck factor than cash games. The blinds go up, which puts pressure on everyone to play hands they might prefer to pass on.
The "short-stack" problem forces players to make the all-in move with less-than-wonderful hands. And, of course, much of the game turns on coin-flip situations where if you lose you're gone.
Annette Obrestad
Even the best tournament players can go months without success.

Consequently, even the very best tournament players can go weeks, months, years without much success.
If you look just at their bottom line, at the amount of money won in some relatively short time frame (and yes, a year is a short time for tournament players), you might begin to think that they've lost their edge or haven't kept up with the game, or something.
Perhaps they have, perhaps not.
The answer will almost certainly turn out to be based on their decision-making.
Overall Approach, Not How Much You're Up or Down
Of course, finding the balance isn't easy because there is that grain of truth in the comment of the unpleasant gentleman on my left.
Indeed, the money counts; it is the ultimate coin of the realm, the final arbiter of how good a player you are. But if you focus on making the right decisions, you'll be okay.
At the end of the day, don't worry too much about what you won or lost.
Go over decisions that you made. Replay difficult hands in your head; analyze them.
Look over situations where you might have played differently.
Assess the soundness of what you actually did. Honest analysis of decisions made will get you a lot further than basking in the glow of a big win or stewing over a loss.

The Basics of Blinds and Betting

Before you can play the game, you're going to have to learn what betting options you have, when you have them and how to make them.
Depending on what style and limit of poker you're playing, the ante or blind structure will vary. I've added a series of tables at the end of this article to allow you to easily find the type used for the game you're about to play.
Antes, Blinds, Brings and Postings
Antes: An ante is a small set amount which all players must contribute before any cards are dealt.
Blinds: Similar to an ante, but not everyone has to contribute. There are two blinds, the small and the big. The small blind is placed by the player directly to the left of the dealer (dealer button), with the big blind to the left of the small.
In a Limit game, the small blind is half the minbet (the lower of the two limits) and the big blind is double that. For example, in a $4/$8 Limit game, the small blind is $2 and the big blind is $4.
In a No-Limit game, the game is usually referred to by the blind sizes. For example, a $2/$5 No-Limit game would be small blind $2, big blind $5.
Brings (Bring-In): In a Stud game, the person showing the worst up card (door card) must "bring it in." A $1/$2 Stud game would typically have a 25¢ ante. The player has the option to bring half the lower limit amount (50¢) or complete to the full bet of $1.
Posting: In a game with blinds, it's common for you to have to "post" before your first hand at the marked cards table. Posting is simply paying the amount of the big blind to be dealt your first hand. If this is required where you play, you also have the option to wait until you would be the natural big blind, or until the button passes you to post.
Betting Options
Call, check, raise, pass, re-raise, push, bet, check-out, three-bet and upstairs are just a few of the terms used in making bets on a poker table. It can seem daunting, but boiled down there are never more than three specific options you can pick from on any street.
All betting actions are made by either vocalizing them, or using a hand gesture. When learning the game, it's best to vocalize all intended action on your turn.
Bet: The first time someone puts money into play on a betting round is a bet. Action: Putting the exact amount of the intended bet across the line, into play.
Call: To match the bet made by another player to have acted before you. Action: Putting in any chips equal to, or less than the bet. Putting in one chip is always considered a call no matter what the value of the chip, unless stated otherwise before the motion.
Check: When no bet has been made, you can stay in the hand by choosing to check rather than bet. Action: Tapping your hand twice on the table, or making a "Keep on moving" sideways wave.
Raise: To increase the amount of the bet made by another. Action: Placing enough chips to make a legal raise in one movement. You are not allowed to place chips and then return to your stack to get more, unless you clearly state your intentions prior to the movement.
Push: A No-Limit term meaning you are betting all of your chips. Action: Pushing everything you have across the line.
Re-raise: You raise a bet, and re-raise a raise. Action: Same as a raise.
Check-out, three-bet, upstairs: All just poker slang for various actions. Not important in learning the game.
Betting Rounds:
A betting round ends when every player who has not folded has had a chance to play and has bet the same amount of chips. Let me make it a little bit clearer:
WSOP red shirt small stack
Not sure the bet is to you? Just ask the dealer.
  • If you are first to act, you have the option to Check, or Bet.
  • If someone before you has bet, you have the option to Call, Raise or Fold.
  • If the first juice cards player bets, and everyone calls, the betting round is finished. The original bettor has already had a chance to act, and does not get to act again on the betting round.
  • If the first player bets, the second player raises and the remaining players call, the original bettor now gets to choose an option on the new action. She can call, or re-raise. If she calls, the betting round is over. If she chooses to re-raise, then everyone else at the table has option again.
The Games
For quick reference, this is how five popular poker variants play out in terms of blinds and betting rounds and amounts.

Game Blind/Ante
Hold'em The game of Hold'em mostly only uses blinds. In higher-stakes games, or late stages of a tourney, you may see antes introduced in addition to the blinds.
Omaha Same as Hold'em.
Seven-Card Stud Typically uses an ante, and a bring. This can change from limit to limit, and room to room.
Five-Card Stud Same as Seven-Card Stud.
Razz Same as Seven-Card Stud.

Game Betting Rounds
Hold'em Four rounds total, plus blinds.
Omaha Same as Hold'em.
Seven-Card Stud Five rounds total, plus antes and bring.
Five-Card Stud Four rounds total, plus antes and bring.
Razz Same as Seven-Card Stud.

Game Betting Amounts
Hold'em Pre-flop and flop minimum bets are the lower limit, turn and river minimum bets are the upper limit.
Omaha Same as Hold'em.
Seven-Card Stud Typically bring is half the lower limit. First betting round and fourth street are the lower limit. Fifth, sixth and seventh street use the upper limit. NOTE: Ante and bring amounts, or usage, can change from limit to limit, and room to room.
Five-Card Stud Typically bring is half the lower limit. First betting round and third street are the lower limit. Fourth and fifth street use the upper limit. NOTE: Ante and bring amounts, or usage, can change from limit to limit, and room to room.
Razz Same as Seven-Card Stud.

Gutshot

A “gutshot” is a drawing hand in
poker. Typically it refers to an inside straight draw. For example, if you have A-5 on a flop of 2-3-9, you have a gutshot straight draw marked cards, as any 4 in the deck will make your straight and the best hand. A double inside straight draw, or “double gutter” is a drawing hand with 8 outs to win. Donks love to overvalue gutshots calling with incorrect odds.

Gambling in Montana

Situated in that great region where the Great Plains meets the Pacific Northwest, the state of Montana is famous for its huge, smoky mountain ranges, more than anything else. The Rocky Mountains dominate most of Montana, which is the fourth largest state in the United States of America yet has the seventh smallest population at just less than one million. Montana shares a 545 mile border with several Canadian Provinces to the North, as well as North and South Dakota, Wyoming and Idaho. The per capita income in Montano is low, amongst the lowest in the United States, largely derived marked cards from agriculture, with tourism running a close second. Montana was the scene of the famous Battle of Little Bighorn, as well as sharing some of the entrances to the huge Yellowstone National Park

The economy in Montana is slowly but steadily on the increase, in large part due to the state's recognition of the importance of promoting tourism. Gambling is a big part of Montana's culture, which makes it an even more attractive destination for out of state visitors. The fact that most of the Casinos are situated on American Indian reservations is of no issue as the Native American Tribes maintain good relations with the local population. As in most other states where the casinos cater more toward out of state visitors, Montanans prefer to do their gambling online, in the comfort and warmth of their own home, and not travel the vast distances to gamble at a live casino. The laws relating to casino gambling in Montana are a little bizarre. Whilst there are dozens of Casinos in Montana, they only allow slot games or video poker. There are no table games. And in any event, most of the live casinos are only open during the summer months when tourism is especially active in the state. There are also quite a few horse racing tracks in the state, but these are also mostly open in spring, summer and autumn.

The infrastructures for the casinos in Montana are excellent, all of them offering excellent dining facilities, bars and entertainment. Many of them are also situated in resort hotels, and offer every facility for tourists, such as shopping malls, parking facilities for RV's
marked cards lenses, on-site child care and fine dining. However the state is still nowhere near to realizing the potential these casinos can offer in tax income and most especially job possibilities for the local population. Table games are what the people want in a live casino, especially the super popular Texas hold'em poker variation.

If the state legislators would wake up to the possibilities of extending the range of table games available in the excellent casinos which are already open in the state it would be doing a service to out of town visitors as well as the locals. Estimates are that it would triple the income of these casinos, and would prevent the drift of gamblers to other states or to spending their time and money gambling online.

Unusual Kinds of Sporting activities Gambling

You possibly know that you can go on the web to participate in wagering on athletics like baseball, basketball and soccer. Almost all sports gambling sites provide opportunities to wager on the outcome of these main sorts of matches. Nevertheless, if major sports activities aren't your favored--or if you're interested in expanding your wagering actions--you might want to search a small closer at some of the a lot more uncommon sporting gatherings available on some sports betting web sites. Tennis, for instance, has grow to be more and more common in latest a long time cheat poker. It can be found on many sports activities betting internet sites. Las Vegas Vacation-tips, Tricks And Cautions

These "cautions", "tips", and "tricks" are offered to help make your Las Vegas Vacation as enjoyable, fast and easy to plan as possible. Whether this is your first trip to "Fabulous Las Vegas" or you are a veteran, you'll find some useful tips and tricks here.
Las Vegas Travel Tips: First and foremost, the biggest mistake many travelers to Las Vegas make in planning a trip is to book the cheapest air fare/hotel package "available anywhere". These are offered everywhere from your hometown newspaper to television ads to especially, e-mail spam. Beware!

Why? A Cheap Las Vegas Vacation is good, we agree! BUT, did you know virtually all Las Vegas Hotels have 2- 3 levels of room quality (or options)? Now, we mean even many of the five star, "big ones" many of these are just plain substandard rooms, maybe with a nice view of the air conditioning system! (This actually happened to me personally, and was it Loud!)

Things like older bed mattresses, no safes, old decorating, long walks to the casino, restraunts, shows, or even a taxi. Did you know there are monorail trains running right behind some of the rooms? How about a roller coaster right outside your window? And lots more. Just remember "cheapest" is just that. Ask at the front desk at check-in exactly where your room is, look at it before signing in if possible

We aren't pushing for only high dollar rooms here, just get the best quality room your budget will allow, you will be very glad you did.

Why book your Hotel first? Las Vegas is booked up an average of 94% year round, so plan ahead (at least 30+ days is recommended) to get the exact days you want, where you want, room quality you want. Plus, usually it's less expensive to book well in advance. Did you know that Sunday through Thursday is less expensive? When you get your selected Las Vegas Hotel booked, then you can book a flight to fit the days in and out to fit YOUR schedule.

Makes sense doesn't it?

Once you get your Las Vegas Hotel booked first. Then you can book the Las Vegas Shows that you want, when you want. Be sure to check to see if your particular show choice isn't "dark" on your selected days. Holidays are a good example of dark days.

Then book your Las Vegas Tour. (If you have never experienced the thrill of a Helicopter Ride at night over "Glitter Gulch and Downtown", or a daytime trip over the Boulder Dam and Grand Canyon this is something you will never forget!) It isn't as expensive as you might think! Check our tours links for prices and times.

This is the entertainment capital of the World, so allow yourself enough time to take in as many attractions (dozens are free) as possible, it will make your Las Vegas Vacation much more memorable. If possible, book an extra night stay just to allow for a special Las Vegas Tour or a day of Las Vegas Golf.

Las Vegas Gambling Tips:

Gambling is the lifeblood of Las Vegas. You didn't really think those billion dollar hotels were built by "winners" did you? Set a daily budget for gambling and stick to it! You do have a good chance at winning. Hundreds if not thousands of "Hand Pay Jackpots" are paid every day. Be careful though, those chips, tokens and ticket-in/ticket-out seem too much like "play money" they are not they are your real money! Stick to your budget! Did I say that already?

Get a "players card" everywhere you go and use it, or if you are a "table player" ask the pit boss to "rank" or "rate" you. They will track your play and comp you accordingly with all kinds of free stuff. Such as meals, rooms, clothing, limos, gift shop points and even cash. These really help put the odds in your favor.

Seems like my "budget" is always too small, but try your best to set a reasonable daily goal and stick to it, don't tap into tomorrows budget! Just maybe you'll walk away a big winner! It happens every day. Remember the phrase: "Walk away when ahead"!

It's not my place to preach, but here are some very useful Las Vegas tips on handling your money. All that cash in the casinos you see everywhere attracts some pretty shady characters (read Crooks!) Security is excellent, but there are always a few, and it just takes one to ruin a perfect vacation.

Las Vegas Security:

Ladies, bring or buy a small purse with a neck strap or waste pouch, or fanny pack, something that is comfortable enough to keep on your person all the time. Never ever set your purse on the floor or next to a machine, or on a stool next to you. This is a magnet for thieves! Keep that strap around your neck.

Most thieves work in pairs, one to distract you, the other to snag your purse. Just a couple types of distractions they use are: one will drop a coin or dollar bill or two near you on the floor and ask you "is that your cash on the floor?" while the other grabs your stuff, or overly talkative "players" will sit down next to you and jabber to get your attention, while their partner grabs your stuff, or hits the payout button and walks away with your ticket. Believe me. This does happen. They are very slick and fast trick cards, so just be aware.

When you do accumulate a couple winning tickets, hide them in your wallet or purse until you are ready to cash them in, and then stash the cash. Remember the "walk away" tip?

Men: It isn't degrading to wear a waste pouch. Okay, if you just don't want to, then fold your bills and keep them in your front pants pocket. If they "pickpocket" your wallet with all your credit cards in it at least you'll have your cash, or vice versa, just keep them seperated. And, watch those tickets.

If you do hit a good size jackpot, take the money to the safe in your room or take it to the Hotel desk for safekeeping. Or, ask for a Security escort to your room or car. They are happy to provide this service. Don't walk around the casino or streets with a big wad of cash!

The Security at all Hotels and Casinos is excellent. With all those thousands of cameras (Eyes in the sky) every inch of the casino is being taped continuously. (Did you know that Nevada law requires casinos to have this level of security?) It is for your protection as well as the Hotel/Casino.

Now please understand, we are not trying to scare you away here, but rather just make you aware! It is real easy to get caught up in all the flashing lights, noise, overhead shows, people watching and normal distractions of a casino. Just don't give them an opportunity to ruin your fun.

Follow these Las Vegas Travel Tips and they will make your Las Vegas Vacation a lifetime memory.
